Using Creams and Moisturisers
Perhaps the simplest way of trying to control a skin condition is with creams and moisturisers. Daily use of a good moisturiser is essential in keeping your skin under control. In fact, you should moisturise your skin several times a day. Especially important is the nightly routine you carry out before going to bed, as the cream you put on at this time of day will absorb more easily. You should also be sure to use your moisturiser every time you wash your hands or have a bath or shower. Some people also recommend putting on cotton gloves as you go to bed after your final night-time moisturising.
By Changing Your Diet
Could some changes to your diet be a way of living with a nasty skin condition more comfortably? Currently, there is little hard evidence to suggest that the food you eat has a dramatic effect on any skin condition such as eczema. Having said that, once way in which this is important is when there is a food allergy present. In other cases, some sources suggest that the likes of banana, rice milk, green tea, fish and potatoes can all be helpful in fighting eczema. Until more research is carried out it is hard to know what dietary changes could make a positive effect but there is nothing to stop you from trying a few different diets to see how they work out for you.
By Bathing More Frequently
One of the most essential parts of any skin care routine for eczema sufferers is a frequent bathing schedule. It is generally recommended that you bathe at least once a day. Some people still mistakenly believe that too much bathing can dry out your skin but it is actually an important part of your overall skin care regime. However, one thing to bear aware of is the need to avoid soaps and other bathing products that could strip your skin of its natural oils. As well as this, you will find that there are paid clinical trials carried out that let you take part in the search for new and more effective ways of controlling these painful skin conditions.
With Light Therapy
Perhaps you have heard of the use of light therapy to treat skin conditions. The theory in this case is that natural sunlight helps to control the skin immune system and therefore reduce inflammation. Because it is easier to control the amount of light received with UV light, this is seen by some as a more effective type of treatment that just getting some sunlight each day. Opinion is still divided over the benefits of this kind of skin treatment, especially as being over exposed to UVA or UVB lights which can be extremely harmful and could even lead to skin cancer. Using Steroids or Medicine
The use of antihistamines is something that is not currently highly recommended by medical experts, mainly due to the fact that it has not been proven to provide good results. Those people who can control their skin condition through moisturisers and bathing may find that they are recommended a steroid treatment to control outbreaks. This can mean that they only need to be taken once a day when the condition flares up. Long term use of steroids isn’t recommended, as there are some potentially nasty side effects such as skin atrophy. There is also the risk of getting addicted to their use if you take them for too long. As we have already seen, clinical trials for dermatology could be the key to finding new and better ways of controlling skin flare ups.
